About

The Apple Blossom Shop is located in the beautiful town of Orono, right on the downtown strip. Our skilled and friendly staff is headed by Yvonne who opened Apple Blossom in 1983. Yvonne's family has been in the floral industry for generations and Apple Blossom carries on the tradition.

This summer, 25 years since opening, Apple Blossom moved from 5324 Main to a larger space across the street (5345 Main). As part of our expansion you can now find unique gifts, cards and more in our beloved new shop, as well as expecting the same dependable and creative floral service clients have been loving for years.

“WE DON’T JUST SPECIALIZE WE MAKE EVERY ORDER SPECIAL”

 Yvonne speaks about her shop:

"Prior to opening my own shop, I had worked for various florists and became frustrated at having to fill an order that was produced in “assembly line” fashion with no regard for the creative. Flowers are a beautiful part of our world and Giving flowers is so very special. Every order must be treated as such and I want the giver and the receiver to be able to say “Ahhh”. (From this sentiment, my staff came up with the term the “AH Effect”-  While creating and arranging and filling orders, we remark among ourselves, “Oh yes that has the AH Effect”!)

We have clients with very specific tastes and we are here to fill those requests. As an example, we have some clients who absolutely adore carnations and others who despise them, so it is our responsibility to know how to handle these requests. Whether it is a traditional or contemporary design or a single wrapped flower, it has to be special! Our cut flowers always leave the shop with water on their stems and our European style had-tied and cut flower bouquets are prearranged so that the recipient can simply unwrap it and drop it into their favourite vase. We also carry an extraordinary  supply of vases as well as hand made pottery. Sometimes a unique vase with an extravagant bouquet or just a simple single bloom is what’s needed to make the art of giving flowers SPECIAL.

I mentioned carnations, and yes, we do carry the regular carnations and mini carnations. I know of some colleagues who make a point of not stocking carnations, but we have a very broad based clientele. With that in mind, we also stock long lasting Haliconia or Kangaroo Paws, Dendrobian, Oncidium and Cymbidium orchids from Holland and Thailand which area favourite with our clients who suffer from allergies to fragrances. Moreover, we do have customers who prefer our fragrant  supply of Asiatic Lilies, Freesia and Ginestra, or those who delight in the bold statement made by bright and cheery Gerbera and Sunflowers or exotic Red Ginger and Birds of Paradise. Changing the texture in our designs is so much fun when we use Trachelium, Queen Ann’s Lace, Leucadendron, Hypericum and large funky Kale. Of course, during our winter months, who can resist spring cut Daffodils, Iris and Tulips which will last for up to 2 weeks in a vase as they seemingly “grow”; their stems get longer and their blooms become larger.

We are often requested to design flowers for funerals and memorial services and that is when we create our beautiful “Celebration of Life” designs. Delphiniums, Fuji mums, peonies and spray roses are the perfect request  for those gardeners who have retired to another world. Since we buy fresh flowers four days a week, we can promise that our cut flowers are long lasting. Even our roses, whether they are from local growers or those that come from Ecuador. The secret to long lasting flowers is a combination of purchasing them from reputable wholesalers, whom we trust, our  proper treatment, conditioning and hardening of fresh flowers and the appropriate presentation and delivery  method. We do carry faux flowers for those who require a product that is everlasting and  have just bought a new  freeze dried rose that is so perfect that it has no loss of colour and is very subtle with no brittleness. Now that is real blossom that would last forever! Our clients are people who are passionate about flowers and when they choose to have or send flowers, all of us at Apple Blossom Flowers are committed to making your world a better place one blossom at a time.

Customized orders are a reason why our customers keep coming back to Apple Blossom Flowers. But not every occasion requires flowers. Fruit and Gourmet Baskets are prepared as they are ordered so that that we may create a perfect order specially assembled to meet specific tastes or restricted diets. You can request just fruit or fruits with chocolate, cookies, teas, coffees, cheeses, crackers, salmon- even diabetic jams and chocolate. Furthermore, we will make pamper baskets for new babies and Moms or maybe a birthday basket to include candles, writing paper, lovely soaps and lotions. To make that order SPECIAL we do require a few days notice for customized orders especially during holiday times.

Tropical Gardens are a timeless way of sending your sentiments and we will often recommend a garden planter especially for Grand Openings and Welcoming to New Homes as well as a Living Memory for families who have lost Loved Ones, because they go on living.
